“We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live in a
fragile circle, easily and often breached.  Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no
other way."
--IRVING TOWNSEND, author "SEPARATE LIFETIMES"
In 2004 I created the Calimel Fund as a health initiative to raise money for Portuguese Water Dog
cancer research through the sale of clothing and gift items which I designed.  One hundred percent of
net proceeds from the sale of these items go to the
Portuguese Water Dog Foundation.  Founded in
1997, the PWDF was formed for the sole purpose of supporting breed specific health research.

I lost both my PWDs to cancer, Chloe to lymphosarcoma in 2000 and C. J. to hemangiosarcoma in
2007.  According to the
Portuguese Water Dog Club of America, "Cancer is currently the number one
cause of death of Portuguese Water Dogs. It is also currently the number one non-traumatic killer of
dogs in general."  Through the efforts of the PWDF, many funded research projects are underway for
hemangiosarcoma, lymphoma, osteosarcoma, transitional cell carcinoma and melanoma.

Please consider offering your support to the PWDF, either through the sale of my items or by
donating to the Foundation directly.  A Portuguese Water Dog is a gift.  They are with us for such a
short, sweet time, please do all that you can to support their health.
